We lock the light in. We let the world out.
The outside becomes an engineering problem. UNDERWEATHER / 天候 extends optical materials into a speculative system of universal protection. Transparency becomes a decision. Future embodied AI might learn to negotiate light, heat, and exposure, continuously revising the boundary between body and environment. Protection becomes programmable; the outside becomes conditional.
Beneath the visible surface persists a reverse factory of supporting structures, exclusions, and unrealised possibilities. This expanded painting manufactures the threshold. The system promises total care. Access removes access. The forecast is an aesthetically manufactured instruction.

Glass is the most confident material. It looks like nothing and decides everything. Developed with Ruihua, a high-tech manufacturer of automotive glass, UNDERWEATHER / 天候 extends the windshield into a speculative system of all-weather protection. Red signals descend, lines become lanes, optical layers sort what may pass: light yes, heat no, noise no, world maybe. Transparency becomes a setting. Built from one drawing and generative AI, scored with chiptune and the weather forecast theme, the work imagines an embodied AI that negotiates exposure the way a car negotiates rain. Underneath runs the reverse factory: supports, coatings, exclusions, futures not taken. The system promises total care. The more perfect the shield, the less there is to meet.

Access removes access. The forecast is no longer a description. It is an instruction.

Two companies, two commissions. We said yes, because a factory is not the opposite of art. It is one of the places where our aesthetics and our world is made.

The result is two videos, OVERWEATHER and UNDERWEATHER. Each lasts two minutes and two seconds. Each began as one drawing by hand and then went through generative AI.

UNDERWEATHER goes to the border. With Ruihua (Ri-choaa): glass, light, heat, exposure. Glass looks like nothing and decides everything. Here protection becomes universal. Red signals fall, lines become lanes, the outside becomes an engineering problem. We lock the light in. We let the world out. Comfort, safety, total care.

Both works share a horizon: embodied AI. An intelligence with a body will not learn from text alone. It will learn the way a factory learns, through heat, friction, pressure and physical pain and failure. It will shape its environment, and the environment will shape its body and its intelligence. We are building embodied AI weather now.

The forecast. The weather map is the friendliest form of authority we know. It turns chaos into a clean picture. Description becomes prescription. The forecast becomes an instruction, aesthetically manufactured.
